Manufacturing and Systems Innovation Program
The CITAM program in Manufacturing and Systems Innovation is being established to:
- Assist the existent manufacturing sector of the Dominican Republic in the adoption of new and advanced methods to enhance their current production capacity; allowing for a more efficient and competitive industrial sector
- Develop new knowledge in product development and commercialization processes;
- Coordinate research in the development of alternative energy and sustainable systems.
Specific programs under this initiative are:
Consulting Services: PUCMM and RIT together with goverment and industry are working with qualified experts to look for an immediate response to the existing manufacturing industry issues, specifically the textile sector (most of which is currently located in the Cibao Valley Free Zones) as well as the electronics sector including but not limited to the manufacture of medical devices (currently located in the Santo Domingo Free Zones).
Manufacturing and Innovation Training: RIT and PUCMM
will continue to offer short term training programs modeled after the Summer
Program in Manufacturing under CITAM and will expand training offerings to
include topics in manufacturing, product and process design and innovation and
commercialization. Manufacturing specific topics will focus on electronics
manufacturing such as surface mount technology, medical devices manufacturing,
advanced electronics packaging, computer integrated manufacturing, lean
manufacturing, and other topics.
